Admittedly this wasn't on the scale of 9/11 but still it has managed to grind London to an absolute halt. Listening to radio, watching the TV, reading teletext or the Internet it all leaves you a bit numb. From early rumours it seems an Al Qaida (or however its spelt) splinter cell or affiliated group are responsible and issued no warning. This is a rumour I'm not blaming them, lets make that clear! Its not a good situation and after the euphoria in London yesterday after the Olympics result, its now a complete reverse. Makes you wonder though, if the IOC had voted Paris, would we be seeing this devastation in France?

Hopefully we'll get everything sorted by tomorrow, tough lot us Brits.

I'll post again at the weekend with all the usual, links and all the other nonsense. In the meantime cheer yourself up by listening to The Subways: Young For Eternity, Hard-Fi: Stars of CCTV and Jack Johnson's albums, quality.

Its really G8

Can't avoid it can you? Its Live 8 and I'm currently watching Coldplay play In My Place. I really thought a minor miracle had happened and Chris Martin hadn't wrote something on his hand, but I was mistaken, never mind. One day Apple will get miffed her felt tips keep going missing.

I fully support the cause, see look at the Make Poverty History banner that is on the top right corner of this page. Click it if you want. I may not agree with the concert itself and see it as a narcissistic pat on the back for Bob Geldof, but that still doesn't stop me agreeing with the message. I say drop the debt, it'll make the world a better place, for a while at least until they begin to need to borrow more money and the reset button is pressed and we see all this again in 20 years when a balding Bono gets on stage again to go through Vertigo again. I suppose thats why the make trade fair cause is just as important. If the rich keep getting richer then the poor farmers, countries, banana growers and coffee planters are still going to be poor. The whole thing needs to be taken into a real context, looked at properly and not just have celebrity endorsement and pressure thrown at it.

Admittedly the likes of Chris Martin, Bob Geldof and Bono are infinitely more intelligent that the most powerful man on the planet George W Bush and would have more intelligent things to say at the G8 summit other than "I want to bomb more eyeraqees cos they bombded my big tower and now we got him, ha ha ha ha, look at my button it says boom and its red" but unfortunately they're not going to be there, all we can do is sign a petition like them, buy a wristband and use our voice. We'll see what happens next week. The papers will be full of it, the Internet will be crawling with it, you cannot escape, unless your name is Osama Bin Laden. Still Coldplay rock!

Back to business, Subterranean tomorrow night, Sky Digital 903 10pm, get a load of this for a night of tunes.

QOTSA – In My Head
Interpol – Slow Hands
Kasabian – Club Foot
Razorlight – Don’t Go Back to Dalston
Audioslave – Be Yourself
Kaiser Cheifs – Na Na Na Na Naa
Babyshambles - Killimangiro
Milburn – Lipstick Lickin’
Simple Plan – Shut Up
Hard-Fi – Hard to Beat
Snow Patrol – Spitting Games
Finch – Bitemarks and Bloodstains
The Kooks – Do You Love Her?
Bowie & Jagger – Dancing in the Street
Foo Fighters - DOA
The Killers – Mr. Brightside
Green Day – Are We The Waiting
Oasis – The Importance of Being Idle
Sufjan Stevens - Chicago
Bright Eyes – Take It Easy (Love Nothing)
Magic Numbers – The Mile
The Flaming Lips – Mr. Ambulance Driver
Diamond Nights – Destination Diamonds
The Cloud Room – Blackout
Gorillaz – DARE (With Shaun Ryder)
Willy Mason – Still A Fly
Arcade Fire – Cold Wind
Snoop Dogg – Gin and Juice

So we're at it again playing the best brand new music first. Just before Xmas last year I broke Arcade Fire on my listeners playing a quality demo version of Power Out. Three months later, the UK music press and other influential types get involved and show the mad love for the Fire. Now a month or so ago, I played Sufjan Stevens for the first time, I believe before any other UK DJ. We're back again tonight with Diamond Nights and more Sufjan Stevens, damn my show is cool! ;)

See you next week

we had all the time in the world

Well at least that's what you'd think. You see. UK critics have been banned from seeing it which is usually a studio defence mechanism for "oh my God this film is shit, we can't afford bad press on a major summer blockbuster starring probably the most high profile Hollywood star around. Let's put the shields up, let no-one see it and hope that nothing gets said and we still have a hit." Sorry boys and girls, the British press ain't that nice. They are all asking questions like "What ae you scared of Tom?" Hopefully it won't be shit, some of the trailers look cool but if they won't screen it to the press its usually a good sign that Dreamworks have a very giant turd in their hands.

Did anyone see New Order on BBC Three's Glastonbury coverage? My name is Julian Casablancas and my band is called The Strokes.

The band have been dating models, celebs and generally arseing about, they've forgot to do what bands do and that's release music. If America had Trisha, then we'd never hear anything of this band every again because the lazy-itis has seriously kicked in. Album number three from The Strokes is a coming, in 2006, hey but its nearly finished! The bands manager and supposed 6th Stroke, Ryan Gentles has released a message via the Strokes mailing list which Goldenfiddle have repeated here. Enjoy!

Sunday night on Subterranean will partly be a celebration of all things Ghrol as the Foo Fighters ready the release of the awesome, double album IN YOUR HONOR. I'm playing a couple of tracks from both the acoustic and electric side of the LP along with a wad of other new music including a first play of the brand new Avenged Sevenfold record. Maybe we'll catch them again soon, who knows.

Going to be posting a bit of this Sunday's playlist soon, got more new records to play.

In the meantime check out this game and try not to go out of your head doing it

Link to Ripley's Believe It or Not

News, rant, links, stuff and possibly a Llama coming soon

It's a bank holiday, why not buy a sofa?

How do

Quick post because I'm off to interview the Towers of London in Manchester as they take part in the NME Rizla new music tour. Tell me what you like and what you don't because I'd like to hear from ya!

At a wedding tomorrow night, can't drink got to drive, rubbish! So probably no bloggy over the weekend as on Sunday I'll be in the studio and the show will go on.

Subterranean, my lovely show on The Villan (Sky Digital channel 903, if you can't get it I'll post tuning instructions soon) is on this Sunday night at 10pm, top notch music as always. On Sunday I'll be playing amongst others tracks from new albums by The Coral, Audioslave, Alkaline Trio, Antony & the Johnsons, Gorillaz and just prior to its release for those who have resisted the urge to download, some of the new Oasis material from Don't Believe the Truth.

Got a new feature starting this week, The Retro, a classic alternative tune from the past, this Sunday there's a quality Manchester tune and its the full length album version too! Also I'll be talking about my interview this Monday with hotly tipped (wow, how press release does that sound?!) band Towers of London who are currently ripping up the UK, (literally) on the NME new music tour. If you like good music, you know where to be (if you can get it that is!) Sunday, 10pm Sky Digital 903, oh yes! Full playlist from the show up on Monday.

Watched Sin City today, SEE THIS FILM it is awesome!

Link time, check this lot:

Dave Ghrol, nicest man in rock is planning to bring the Foo Fighters roadshow to a bunch of town and is leaving them electric instruments behing. In support of IN YOUR HONOR The Foo's are looking at an acoustic tour, check the story HERE

New Snow Patrol coming soon, HERE'S the heads up

John's music tip for the day straight outta the Emerald Isle, MESSIAH J AND THE EXPERT.

Movie time now, Johnny Depp + Tim Burton = walking acid trip, latest funky trailer HERE

Did you see Saw? Well I say you should see saw, but if you did see Saw, here’s some info on Saw 2, do you think these films are linked by a chainsaw, haw haw!

Link here!!

Eli Roth did Cabin Fever which was, well ok, but hopefully the world’s most hardcore Olsen Twins stalker can do better with this one called HOSTEL. Ring 2, rubbish, so why commission Ring 3? Who knows?

Link from Empire Online here

The Brothers Rich, I mean Weinstein announced their slate for 2006 the other day, Sin City 2, awesome, but what the world should be excited about is THE GRIND HOUSE, the proper collaboration between Tarantino and Rodriguez, oh yes. All for a game of football too. The Champions League final from the Attaturk stadium in Istanbul provided all the thrills and spill required for a game like this. All the cliches could have been used. This was a rollercoaster match but it felt like someone had written a script for 22 actors to play out live on TV.

Liverpool 3-0 down at half time and I was ready to cry into my glass of Jack Daniels thinking this is going to get worse but privately keeping the faith. Around 70 minutes into the game, its 3 all, a player who's leaving the club scores a stormer and the belief is there again. Extra time wrecked the nerves, penalties almost killed me. But the trophy is at Anfield for keeps and I have to say to my team Liverpool FC, well done boys you deserve it all and its ours to keep. Even the Queen says it was great she can't be wrong can she? Awesome.

Anyway's back to reality, after my TV rant yesterday, I feel some musical issues need to be addressed mostly THIS story from yesterday's post. Oh yes its that FREAKIN' FROG

I assume you don't live in a cave (but if you do and your name is Mr O Bin Laden, I think there's a few people looking for you) or under a rock so you will know what the Crazy Frog is. A bloody annoying ringtone which entertains kids and buries its annoying little bastard way into peoples brains like that little worm thing in Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn. Thing is ol Crazy git has taken the next step and along with some blokes (one of which is ex Radio 1 chart show presenter, "Hi this is" Wes Butters) has joined forces with another ringtone which people buy in their droves the Beverly Hills Cop theme to make what is possibly the most annoying record ever. In Axel F, Satan is on Earth! This music is the Devils theme tune and currently there's loads of very silly people buying it. Axel F is, according to the midweek industry figures outselling its nearest rival for the top of this weeks official UK chart by 4 to 1. Axel F's nearest rival is COLDPLAY and their new single Speed of Sound.

Chris Martin, possibly one of this generations greatest songwriters is going to be denied his first UK number one by a ringtone and a cartoon frog. Not only that and I'm sure this infuriates my fellow Manc, Noel Gallagher, Oasis are looking to be behind Coldplay, also losing out to the Frog.

Now whereas I actually have time for all forms of music, I respect its place in the whole scheme of things, man even S Club had a place, but this thing is not a piece of musical genius. Its a mass marketing ploy which already having made millions on that bloody ringtone, (along with all the others they peddle to you for £3 a week on their subs service) is just here to annoy fans of real music.

Earlier this week Dominik Diamond in the (ooh ahh) Daily Star listed ten things he'd rather do than listen to this crap single, one of them was run a drill through his head. Pass it my way after you will ya Dom? Oh well, all the best songs go in at number 2.

Time for some Linkery dinkery doo methinks

Everyone's read THE DA VINCI CODE, the film is coming out next year with Tom Hanks and Sir Ian McGandalf, the teaser trailer sucked, but HERE'S the offical website, it ain't much better right now.

Sleater Kinney are great, no really they are. Stream their brand new album here

http://www.subpop.com/bands/sk/player.html

Yes SYSTEM OF A DOWN are the bomb and this proves it.

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/7352005/systemofadown?pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=single1

Burt Reynolds, he's cool as, we all know that. But don't ever cross him about missing one of his films, he'll slap the crap out of ya! This is funny, watch the poor CBS reporter, slappy, slappy.

http://cbsnewyork.com/topstories/local_story_145094335.html

Kim-Jong Ill is official a movie star thanks to Team America and IMDB, check out the real life picture they have of him

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0453535/

Sky High, (you know the one I mentioned yesterday starring THE CHIN) looks mega on them there still, but here are some moving images for you in the form of a trailer, are you a Superhero or a Sidekick?

http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/skyhighqt1.html

Four shots of Fantastic Four and only one of them contains Jessica Alba? Come on Liverpool! Its ours tomorrow.

Promised you a rant and here it is. The Internet, wonderful isn't it? Filled with loads of stuff to look at, some great, some rubbish. There's pictures, videos, music and porn, lots of porn. There's also loads of stuff to download. Most of its probably porn, but that's not the point. Everyone's probably got a file to share, but gone are the days of Kazaa, Torrent's are the new black.

In my opinion, torrents are great, they truly are the king of filesharing types and recently they've got on the nerves of amongst others the Motion Picture Association of America (www.mpaa.org). Pop quiz, just what have you downloaded lately? If you've downloaded an episode of Smallville, 24, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy or American Dad, then you better run, cos the big boys are after you! Didn't you know you're harming these multi-million dollar corporations you bad, bad people!

Alright, there's no need to run because nothing's gonna happen, but the MPAA's argument is extremely weak. How many times have you left the house for work, a night out or whatever and forgot to set you video, Sky+ or TiVo? How many times have you been avidly watching a series, been so into and then missed an episode that isn't repeated? Or like me, such a fan of a certain show that you want to see all the new episodes NOW!!! So what do you do? Go and download it of course. Most US tv shows are available for download. I've seen a bunch of shows before they hit UK screens, on the other side of the pond, I've read many forum posts off of people who have been watching all the episodes of the new Doctor Who before US broadcast.

So what's the big bad here? So what I've seen a TV show before its broadcast in the UK (or I'm sure people have done the same) I'll probably watch it again on UK TV and if I like it, I'll buy the DVD, I do this with things I like. I also tell others about them, much like a lot of others who download TV shows. Mr Fox, Mr WB, I think we're doing your job for you. So where's the thanks for our free promotion of your shows? Oh there it is thanks for the nasty legal document, cheers matey! I've seen advance episodes of Family Guy, American Dad, 24, Smallville and others and I'll say now, I'll be parting with my cash when the DVD's come out. End of the day, you multi-million dollar firms get our money out of us, so come on stop bitching, where's the harm in seeing a show in advance? I say keep the torrents coming, for a kick off I want the next episode of Family Guy!

Random link time now: Sin City is on the way and the glory of Yes, yes oh God Yes, Jessica Alba will be showing her sweetness on screen. But at the premiere in the UK Michael Madsen spilt his guts over the forthcoming Tarantino war flick Inglorious Bastards, check out the links below for news from the mouth of Madsen

http://www.filmfocus.co.uk/newsdetail.asp?NewsID=336
http://www.empireonline.co.uk/site/news/newsstory.asp?news_id=16817

More films, this should rule. If you like your music alternative (or for the old school indie) then you'll find a warm home with me at Subterranean. This week there's first plays for new tracks by Oasis, Audioslave, Antony & the Johnsons, The Coral and a few others. An quality classic in The Retro and nonsense chat from myself.

So here we are as the Bloc may say, hopefully you can get the chance to hear me as well as read me.

Full on ranting post at some point tomorrow. If you've downloaded a TV show in the past, it'll definitely interest you.

see you later homies

Welcome to the show

How do folks,

So here's the first real post on here and I thought I'd give you an idea of what's going to be going on this blog.

First up, cos that profile to the right doesn't give away too much, my name is John, I present a radio show on a station called The Villan and we broadcast on Sky Digital channel 903 if you live near Birmingham or anywhere else in the Midlands in the UK, you can get it with now problems but other than that you've got to tune it in with two daft 6 digit numbers.

On here, I'll mostly be ranting about music, film, television, my show (hey what's the harm in self promotion?) and any other nonsense that catches my eye.

Expect links, pictures, random thoughts, bits of interviews and anything else that looks good enough to post.

Rock on homies!

Hello

Hi Folks

First post and it tells you nothing so that's useful isn't it?
